1/12 riksdaler specie, Stockholm, Karl XIV Johan, 1832
The coin with the denomination 1/12 riksdaler was minted for the last time under King Karl XIV Johan. On the obverse (front) we see the king's portrait and the title ‘CARL XIV SVERIGES NORR(ges) G(ötes) O(ch) V(endes) KONUNG’ (Carl XIV king of Sweden, Norway and, the Geats and the Wends). The King of Norway had been added to the royal title in 1814 when Sweden and Norway were united in the Swedish-Norwegian Union. The King of the Geats and the Wends was a royal title used since the days of King Gustav Vasa (1523-1560) and was to remain in use until 1973, when Carl XVI Gustaf became King of Sweden. Since 1973, the royal title has simply been King of Sweden.
