2 dukat, Pommern-Stettin, Karl XI, 1692
This 2 ducat is a clear example of a demonstration of power. On the obverse (front) of the coin we see a portrait of the mint owner, King Karl XI of Sweden, wearing armour and a cloak, and an inscription in Latin:
“D G REX CAROLUS REX SVEC(IAE)” – “Karl XI, by the grace of God King of Sweden”.
On the obverse (back) we see the state regalia: the crown, sceptre, sword and orb, on top of a sheaf of grain surrounded by the inscription:
“ET REGIT ET TEGIT POMERANIAM SVAM” – “He rules and protects his Pomerania”.
