Flint daggers, south Scandinavia, around 2400–1800 BC

These 14 flint daggers were found in 1874 in a Late Neolithic tomb (around 2400–1800 BC), what is known as a stone cist. This tomb was built using large, flat stones and contained the remains of a large number of human skeletons.

Good quality raw materials and a great deal of craftsmanship were required to produce flint daggers. It is likely that all the flint daggers found in Kokkola were made in Denmark or Skåne. As fine imports, flint daggers had a high value. It was prestigious to own and exchange them.
