5 kronor, Tumba, Sveriges riksbank, 1891
The new banknote series of the 1890s, featuring the sitting Mother Svea, coincided with the start of what is known as the second industrial revolution in Sweden. New and important inventions, banking expansion with improved access to capital, and a shift from commodity production to more sophisticated products, all contributed to a major boost for the country's economy.
Increased use of coal as an energy source alongside electrification meant a shift of production and factories from rural to urban areas. The new industrial cities became the hubs of this rapid development.
