1 öre, Säter, Kristina, 1638

If you compare Queen Kristina’s 1 öring coins with King Gustav II Adolf’s 1 öring coins, you will see that Kristina’s are significantly larger than Gustav II Adolf’s. This is because hers were struck according to the new coinage system introduced in 1638. This reduced the value of copper, and coins needed to be larger for the metal value to be equivalent to 1 öre. After that, Gustav II Adolf’s 1 öre coins began to circulate as ½ öre coins instead.
