Örtug, Västerås, Svante Nilsson, 1504–1512
This extremely rare coin is one of only two known examples of örtugs minted during the governorship of Svante Nilsson (1504–1512).
The Swedish shield with its three crowns can be seen – not surprising for late medieval Swedish coins. More unusually, the coat of arms of the Natt och Dag family, to which Svante belonged, appears just above the three-crown shield. However, little more than the shape of this shield is visible due to the wear on this coin.
