1/4 riksdaler, Stockholm, Kristina, 1640
Christ is depicted on Kristina’s ¼ riksdaler together with SALVATOR MUNDI SALVATOR NOS: saviour of the world, our saviour. This is the same motif as on the higher denomination riksdaler.
The first time Christ appears on a Swedish coin is on King Gustav Vasa’s daler minted in Västerås in 1540, and then on the more famous Svartsjö daler minted between 1542 and 1550. The motif then reappears on the coins of several kings up to Kristina. The motif no longer appears after that.
