1 riksdaler, Sala, Kristina, 1639
This riksdaler was minted in Sala in Västmanland. Sala was home to Sweden’s biggest silver mine, and there has been a mint adjacent to the mine since 1631.
The first coins struck at the mint were riksdaler coins for King Gustav II Adolf. Both riksdaler and markmynt coins were minted here when his daughter Kristina became queen. We see Kristina on the obverse of this riksdaler, and on the reverse Christ.
