Pollett note of Andarum's Alum mill

Pollett notes are strongly reminiscent of so-called ‘valuter’, i.e. notes issued by private individuals due to the shortage of coins in the 1760s. Andrarum alum mill was one of the places where tokens were issued. The alum mill was an important industry in the 18th century. The use of ‘valuter’ banknotes was banned in 1766, which meant that the use of these tokens also ceased at the alum mill.
