1 daler silvermynt, Stockholm, Karl XII, 1715

Between 1714 and 1717, plate coins were cast using discarded cannons at the widow Catarina Meyer’s foundry at Hötorget in Stockholm. The plates were then stamped with Inspector Magnus Lundström’s stamping machine in Rännaregården, not far away.

A total of 200,000 daler silvermynt coins were made in 1 and 2 daler plates. As the cannons were made of bronze, an alloy of copper and tin, the metal value of the plate coins was lower than that of plate coins made of copper.

What also sets these plate coins apart from others is that the king’s monogram is not included in the corner stamp, but just a simple crown.
