2 skilling banco, Stockholm, Karl XIV Johan, 1837
With the new riksdaler coin, the riksdaler specie, came the new skilling coin, the skilling banco. The name banco came from the fact that, after the great inflation of 1808/1809, the skilling coins followed the riksdaler banco banknotes and not the riksdaler specie coins. On the reverse (back) of the coin we see the denomination printed, ‘2 skilling banco’, within an oak leaf wreath. There is no mark indicating that the skilling was struck in Stockholm, but the crossed arrows show that the copper comes from the Falu copper mine in Dalarna.
