1/2 öre, Stockholm, Oscar I, 1857
When the decimal system was introduced in 1855, the penny unit returned after a hiatus since 1778. When King Oscar I resumed the penny coinage, the lower penny coins 5, 2, 1 and 1/2 öre were minted in bronze, an alloy of copper, zinc and tin. The lowest denomination, the 1/2 öre, was introduced in 1856 and ceased to be minted for good in 1867 during the reign of King Karl XV.
