4 riksdaler riksmynt, Stockholm, Oscar I, 1856
When the decimal system was introduced in 1855, Sweden had a common denomination for coins and banknotes. It replaced riksdaler specie for coins and riksdaler banco for the Riksbank's banknotes. With the new coinage system, coins were counted in riksdaler riksmynt, which was divided into 100 öre. As we can see from the coin in the display case, the denomination of the largest silver coin was initially stated in both riksdaler riksmynt and riksdaler specie - ‘1 riksdaler specie’ and ‘4 riksdaler riksmynt’.
