500 kronor, Tumba, Sveriges riksbank, 1985
In 1985, the Riksbank issued a 500-krona banknote for the first time. The motif on the banknote is Karl XI. As king, he is known for his successes in the war against Denmark and the so-called reduction, which meant that property was confiscated from the nobility. In Lönsboda in Skåne, on the other hand, the population mainly remembers that he gave orders to kill all the men and burn all the farms. The new 500-kronor note often arrived at the banks in a slightly unusual condition, where someone had gouged out the king's eyes with a sharp object.
Shortly after the banknotes came out, it turned out that it could be confused with the 100-krona note, which also had a bluish tint. The 500-krona note featuring Karl XI was redesigned and given a reddish colour instead.
