1 krona, Finland, Carl XVI Gustaf, 2009
This is a 2009 commemorative coin, produced to commemorate the loss of Finland to Russia in the Finnish War of 1809. In 2009, all 1-krona coins were produced in this way, with a total issue of 40 020 000 pieces.
The side of the coin bearing the royal portrait is unchanged. The other side, however, shows a motif in the form of dashed lines, symbolising the bond between Sweden and Finland through the sea. The outer ring includes a quote from the Finnish-Swedish writer Johan Ludvig Runberg (1804-1877): ‘THE WONDERFUL TALE OF A COUNTRY ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SEA’.
