1 öre, Norrköping, Gustav II Adolf, 1626

In 1626, Gustav II Adolf had 1 öre coins struck in the city of Norrköping. It is the only time that coins are struck in Norrköping. On the obverse (front) of the coin is the coat of arms of the House of Vasa, the vase, surrounded by the initials ‘G A R’ - ‘Gustavus Adolpus Rex’, or ‘King Gustaf Adolf’. On the reverse (back) we see the coat of arms of Östergötland, a griffin with dragon wings. The legend on the coin is: ‘MONETA NOVA 1 OR CIVIT(ATIS) NORCOPENSIS 1626’ - ‘the city of Norrköping's 1626 new coin 1 öre’. The mint master (the person who led the work in the mint) in Norrköping was called Bertil Kruse and his mint master mark BK can be seen under the vase.
