Coin finds from Källa Old Church, Öland, period 1250–1350

From the mid-13th century onwards, more and more coins seem to have been dropped on the floor of Källa church on Öland, especially after the turn of the 14th century. Coins started to become more common among farmers on the island, although they were only used for certain types of payments.

Many of the coins found in the church dating back to this period are from Gotland, but coins struck on the mainland for Swedish kings such as Magnus Eriksson have also been found. There are also a couple of German bracteates that can probably be linked to the Hansa trade.
