According to the Coinage Act of 1873, the 10-krona coin was the principal coin and each 10-krona coin was to contain 1/248 kilograms of fine gold. The 10-krona coins were minted from 1873 to 1901. Ninety years later, in 1991, the 10-krona coin returned, but was only gold in appearance, struck in aluminium bronze.
