1 penning, Svartsjö, Gustav I Vasa, 1545

Between 1545 and 1548, the denomination 1 penning (whose value was 192 to the mark) was minted, the lowest denomination under Gustav Vasa. The denomination was a silver coin and had existed for more than 500 years in Sweden. The coin was minted for the last time at the Svartsjö Castle mint in 1548.

Gustav Vasa's coins had a very low silver content, 125/1000, and the weight was only 0.24 g. The obverse (front) of the coin shows a lion against a background of streams and the legend (text) states that Gustav Vasa is the King of Sweden. The reverse shows the three-crowned shield and has Gustav Vasa's motto ‘OMNIS POTETAS A DEO’, in translation ‘all power is of God’.
