Penning, Sigtuna, Olof Skötkonung, circa 1000–1020
Most of the Viking-Age coins from Sigtuna used English coins to copy from. This coin resembles the English “Quatrefoil” type of coin minted during the reign of Canute the Great (1016–1035). This type of coin gets its name from the design on the coin’s reverse (back) that resembles four leaves, a four-leaf clover, surrounding a cross.
