2 mark, Landskrona, Karl XI, 1675
This 2 mark coin was struck at the Landskrona mint in Skåne. Both 2 markmynt and 2 öresmynt coins were struck there between 1675 and 1676.
On the reverse (back) we see a crowned L for Landskrona, the town where the coin was minted, and above it two cornucopiae forming King Karl XI’s mirror monogram CC.
Silver markmynt and öresmynt coins were minted continuously in Stockholm. The coins became larger and larger during the latter part of Karl XI’s reign. This increase was probably due to a desire to increase the use of silver coins instead of plate coins. The minting of plate coins ceased in 1691, with a few exceptions. It was not until 1710 that plate coins were produced on a large scale again.
