1 öre, Göteborg, Gustav II Adolf, 1625

This coin was minted for Gustav II Adolf in Gothenburg in 1625. For two years, in 1625 and 1626, the king had 1-öre coins struck in the city. This was not the first time that coins were minted in Gothenburg. Gustav II Adolf's father Karl IX had already struck coins in Gothenburg in 1610, but at that time Gothenburg was located at Färjenäs on Hisingen. After Gothenburg was burnt to the ground by the Danes in 1611, the city was rebuilt on its present site by Gustav II Adolf in 1621, in order to improve Sweden's trade links to the west.
