2000 riksdaler riksmynt, Norrköpings Bomulls väfveri AB, 1860-07-01
Norrköpings Bomulls Väfveri AB (the Norrköping Cotton Mill) was founded in 1852. Since the 17th century, the textile industry in the town had specialised in wool for the military. The Crown was the only customer.
But by the mid-19th century, economic and technological conditions had changed significantly. After the Companies Act came into force in 1849, it was now easier to finance companies.
Norrköpings Bomulls Väfveri also started a spinning mill in 1861, but the timing was bad. The American Civil War broke out that same year and negatively affected the Swedish textile industry. The supply of cotton was severely restricted and operations came to a complete halt in many places, such as Norrköping's Bommuls Väfveri. However, the company survived the crisis and became one of the leaders in the industry.
