1/16 riksdaler specie, Stockholm, Oscar I, 1852

This is the second lowest denomination among the riksdaler specie coins. But it has much the same design as the highest denominations: the king's portrait on the obverse and the great Swedish coat of arms on the reverse. The difference is that instead of two lions as shield bearers, the chain of the seraphim order surrounds the coat of arms.

The Order of the Seraphim is the foremost royal order and was established by King Fredrik I in 1748. The Order of the Seraphim is still awarded today to the Swedish Royal Family and, on the government's recommendation, preferably to heads of state or equivalent persons in connection with state visits.
