1/12 riksdaler, Stockholm, Gustav III, 1777
1/12 riksdaler (8 öre) is the second lowest denomination among the silver coins of Gustav III. The king's portrait has been replaced by his monogram ‘G III’ and on the reverse (back) of the coin on display we can see that the coin's denomination is indicated both with the new designation 1/12 riksdaler and the old designation 8 öre. This was something that was done on all riksdaler denominations during a transitional period in connection with the new coinage system, where the riksdaler became the main coin.
