5 öre, Eskilstuna, Carl XVI Gustaf, 1981
This is a 5-öre coin produced during the time of the current King Carl XVI Gustaf as King of Sweden. As with other öre coins, the king's image is not shown here. Instead, his crowned initials appear in a so-called monogram, ‘CGXVI’, surrounded by the year of creation, 1981. On the other side is the denomination, but also two smaller symbols on either side of the outer ring: E and U. These are references to the mint in Eskilstuna and the mintmaster at the time, Bengt Ulvfot. The mintmaster was the person who led the work in the mint.
Only a few years later, in 1985, the 5 öre was abolished as a legal tender.
