10 dukat, Bremen-Verden, Kristina, 1650
The Archdiocese of Bremen and the Diocese of Verden were transferred to Sweden by the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 and became the Duchy of Bremen-Verden. As the old Hanseatic city of Bremen was not part of the territory, Bremen-Verden coins were struck in Stade, west of Hamburg. Sweden ceded the duchy to the Elector of Hanover, also King George I of Great Britain, at the time of the Peace of Stockholm in 1719.
The coin you see here shows a portrait of Queen Kristina and the large Swedish coat of arms, with the arms of the Duchy added at the bottom of the coat of arms.
