Penning, Svealand, Knut långe, 1229–1234
Svealand penning showing a lion moving to the right and the inscription KANVTVS (Knut). The lion symbolises power, in this case the power of King Knut.
This specimen was found in a hoard together with several other Svealand pennings from the time of Knut the Tall. The hoard was found when a cemetery wall in Eskilstuna, Södermanland, was demolished in 1879.
