Emergency banknote – 10 kronor

Emergency banknotes were intended to be used in the event of war. This banknote is one of 120 million secretly printed in 1951 in England with a total value of SEK 4.3 billion.

Few people knew about the banknotes, which were stored in vaults around the country. Most of the emergency banknotes were destroyed in 1982 because they were too easy to counterfeit. New ones were planned, but the project was scrapped in 1994, three years after the fall of the Soviet Union. The risk of war was considered low and the need for emergency banknotes disappeared.
