1/6 öre, Avesta, Karl XI, 1672
King Karl XI's 1/6 öre silver coin (made of copper) is Sweden's first credit money. This meant that the metal the coin was made of did not correspond to the denomination written on the coin, just like the coins we use today. King Karl XI's credit money was struck between 1666 and 1686 in large numbers, totalling over 111 million pieces.
When Karl XI's daughter Ulrika Eleonora became Queen of Sweden in 1719, all copper round coins were credit money.
