2 daler silvermynt, Riksens ständers kontor, 1719
In 1719, the Office of the Riksens Ständers Bank was established in order to repay the large national debt incurred as a result of the wars waged during the reign of Karl XII. People were supposed to deposit the emergency coins and banknotes against which the general public had exchanged their regular money. Everyone depositing their coins and notes received some of their money back a week later, but not as much as they had originally deposited.
Two öre silvermynt were returned for every daler silvermynt deposited. In addition, the depositor received an insurance note like this one, which promised 14 öre per daler deposited, no later than five years later. In total, depositors received 2+14 öre per daler deposited. As one daler silvermynt was divided into 32 öre silvermynt, this resulted in a 50% devaluation, or reduction in value.
