4 öre, Åbo, Gustav I Vasa, 1557
Between 1556 and 1558, the last Swedish coinage took place in Turku. The reason was a costly war against Russia that lasted from 1555 to 1557. Square klippe coins were quicker to mint than round coins and were primarily intended to be paid to soldiers who participated on the Swedish side in the war. The mint in Turku produced 16, 8, 4 and 2 öre klippe coins. The 4 öre klippe was produced in two different types: a square one made in 1556 and a rhombic one made in 1557.
The rhombic 4 öre in the display case shows on the obverse (front) a crowned vase shield with the year of issue 1557. The reverse shows a crowned shield with the three crowns and the denomination 4 ÖR(e).
