5 öre, Stockholm, Oscar I, 1857
When King Oscar I had öre national coins minted, Sweden received its first bronze coins, an alloy of copper, tin and zinc. 5 öre riksmynt were minted until 1873 when the Scandinavian Monetary Union was formed and new 5 öre coins were introduced. The 5 öre coin on display was made at the Royal Swedish Mint on Kungsholmen in Stockholm, and the portrait was made by the mint's coin engraver Lea Ahlborn.
