Coin finds from Källa Old church, Öland, period 1550–1750
The amount of coins in the Källa church dating back to the 1550–1750 period cannot be directly compared with the volume of coins from earlier periods. On the one hand, the Lutheran Reformation influenced how coins were used in churches. This meant, for example, that sacrifices were no longer made to the saints. On the one hand, the coins were much larger and so were easier to find on the church floor when they were dropped. We know from written sources that most of the payments made on Öland at that time were made with coins.
