Mercantilism
In 18th century Europe, it was important for countries to export more than they imported. As much as possible had to be produced within Sweden’s borders – food, weapons and even silk (1). A number of manufacturers received state funding, such as the textile factory in Alingsås (4) founded by Jonas Alströmer (2).
