Letter to Sweden
Many people were poor in 19th century Sweden. But it was said that on the other side of the Atlantic, harvests were bigger, jobs were more plentiful and all religions were allowed. More than 1.2 million Swedes emigrated to the USA between 1845 and 1930. This was almost a fifth of Sweden’s population.
