Tokens from early industries
Mills and manufactories produced goods using industrial methods before 19th century factories were built. Products were often manufactured by hand, but on a large scale. Sometimes workers were paid in tokens that could only be used at the mills in exchange for certain goods, such as alcoholic drinks (5).
