The Nicobar Hoard
The Danish ship Nicobar was on its way to India in the summer of 1783. She was carrying 5,000 Swedish copper plates. But the ship sank in stormy seas off the coast of South Africa. The wreck with its hoard of plate money was found more than 200 years later. Parts of it are shown here.
