Sweden’s first savings bank
Carolina Bernhardina Hammardahl was just three years old when an account was opened for her at the savings bank in Gothenburg in 1820. According to the register in the display case (3), she was the bank’s very first customer. The new savings banks were created to encourage the poor to save their money. That way, they would be better off in difficult times.
